Above are photos that show the main entrance into the Asylum. The long winding staircases show the vastness of the building to the upper levels. High arches portray a light, “airy” feel to the stuffy hospital-like atmosphere of the building. The architecture was state of the art, and remains one of the last few Kirkbride buildings in existence. Its beauty is uncommon and no one structure in this day and age can compete with Dr. Thomas Kirkbride’s unique method of creativity in constructing such historical, magnificent facilities. The photo to the right is a shot from the inside looking out to the beauty that was just beyond the reach of thousands of patients hospitalized at the asylum. The tranquil naturalistic beauty was only a window away for all those inside the structure
